Walking my two dogs and both were on a leash. We were in the middle of a parking lot heading for the woods for a nice Sunday evening walk. when my leg was hit by a Pit Bull dog and then the Pit Bull continued to attack one of my dogs. The pit bull had a death grip on my dogs neck area. The attack dog had a collar on so I reached down and tried to pull it off of Rosie my dog. My dog was dying right before my eyes and screaming the awful screams of pain and shock were just unbelievable! Apparently the owner of the pit bull arrived and tried to get his dog off of my dog. With both of us pulling and trying our best to get the pit bull to release rosie.. we just could not pull the pit bull off.. and stop the attack. It was at this point that I removed my gun from my holster and put the gun in the back of the pit bulls head. Just as I was pulling the trigger the owner of the pit bull shouted please dont shoot my dog. Just for a second I took my eyes off the pit bull and looked into the eyes of the pit bulls owner! I said ok! Just get your dog off of my dog. I put my gun down to my side and tried to help the pit bulls owner continue to remove his dog. At this point he had the pit bull off my dog but trying to restrain him by holding him in a hug with his arms wrapped around the pit bull. This pit bull dog was determined to get free again and attack me or my dogs again. At this point I put my gun back in the holster and slowly walked towards my dog. While I was still in great danger and walking towards my dog .. I called 911 to get help! The 911 operator would not listen to me so I had to hang up on him. I put my dog in my car and drove directly to the emergency vet hospital which was about 5 or 6 miles away. The 911 dispatcher called my cell phone and left a message for me to call him. While I was in the waiting room of the emergency vet I returned the call to the 911 dispatcher as requested. I removed my gun from my side and locked it in my car before I went into the vets office. When I got home I called the police to take the report. . The next day i warned the people that live next to my house to be careful when walking there dog. She about hit the floor! The same thing happened to her dog Bubba. The attack was by the same pit bull and owner!

  • i think maybe the florence, ky. dispatcher in question had a review and some good came out of this... i hope! and thank you for your service Army Guy...

  • mean pit bull dogs and dispatchers that show no respect for the public under attack must go... so sorry to here this about your miniture pinscher and your parents.

  • it is with great sadness that i say this is very real....

also, i was not quick to point out it was a pit bull dog as you can here on the 911 dispatch.. while i was under attack i said i think it was a pit bull dog or something... as it turned out i was correct in my ID... this could really make you think twice abut calling 911

  • thank you... my Rosie past away this year...2011 "RIP"

she was a great friend.. i miss her....

  • thank you for your support and comment... one thing i have learned about making a 911 call, when the word GUN is mentioned, the dispatcher and police alike become Death Ear.. they here nothing past the word GUN!

  • u dickhead let him fucking shoot it. it just mauled his dog.

  • This dispatcher was very dick headish! He doesnt realize that peoples pets are like their children! But hes more worried about the damn firearm, and i bet when the cops got there they treated you like a criminal because you said you were going to shoot!

  • Getting attacked by a pit bull is "ethically" no different than being attacked by a wolf. Is it "bad" or even "a crime" to defend against a life threatening attack? Absurd. A victim of assault who is able to defend himself is still a "victim". The 911 supervisor was very insulting, and showed NO concern for the victim or his dog, and NO concern for the fact that a viscious dog was still on the loose.

  • Is there no concealed carry law in Kentucky? Your more of a gentleman than I am, if a dog attacked my dog I would break leather and fire..........absolutely NO reservation.

  • Since when is it illegal to be "armed with a handgun". Just because this douche is a police dispatcher doesn't mean he knows crap about the law. I'm almost always "armed with a handgun" and if a pitbull attacks me or my dog you bet your ass I'm gonna burn a hole right through the monster. I am an American, born with the right to the armed defense of myself and my loved ones!

  • Good answer. You are the public.... Its sad that being a gun owner in this country makes you a bad guy.

  • I appreciate that the police have a very difficult job and frequently come in for outrageously flase criticism, and let's face it, we always want them there when we need them, but despite their duty to protect the public, and they often do so losing their own lives, this despatcher is a bit daft, hysterical and unreasonable.

I would kill anything or anyone that was endangering my dogs life if it were absolutely necessry, just as if I were defending my own children.

  • i know how ya feel...my mom and dad were walkin our dog, a miniture pinscher, and this pit bull came chargin at them and went right for my dog, he got a hold of him before my parents could get him and grabbed his leg and wouldnt let go, the owner came down and tried to help..in the end my mom had been bitten on her leg and hand and my dad was bitten on his hand as well..but my dog got the worst, we had to have his leg amputated..but he is gettin along fine now, im just glad we still have him
