I would just like to stress the importance of NOT using treated timber to make biochar as that is likely to contain ARSENIC which remains in the charcoal and would poison the soil, as well as releasing toxic fumes when it is burnt.

To the people saying this is not biochar: it is, it just isn't very efficient. the wood outside is just being burned, the wood inside is being heated in a low-oxygen environment (pyrolysis) which is exactly how you make biochar. The wood burning on the outside, however makes it inefficient and perhaps no longer carbon-negative.

Biochar, hmmm.... heat is needed to make this product, anything in our modern society that creates heat ultimately comes from fossil fuels, or biomass. It seems to me that it takes more energy to create biochar, how much co2 was put off to create this product? How much cor will be sequestered, into this charcoal product? There is a reason that this is not a longterm solution to reducing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.

If you changed your burner barrel to be standing up so that the hole exhausted the gas to the fire, you could make this an endothermic system.

Must NOT burn pressure-treated wood. Yes, this contains arsenic. You can identified this by the score marks on the wood. Also no plywood or any glued wood. Btw, I'm not sure how this video is "Official?"

You can burn ANY biomass. Wood, grass, weeds, sawdust, pellets, whatever.

I know you have plenty of wood at hand to play around with, but it shouldn't stop you investigating other methods that reduce emissions to clear co2 and vapour, and will probably bring your efficiency way up also.

Grats on the video man, very informative. For the most A typical hater's calling this guy names and posting unfounded facts STFU. No he didnt make a retort and recycle the wood gas to make it more efficient. Is he killing the planet though, no burning wood has no more negative effect on the atmosphere then letting it rot, do the research. In fact burning is better then letting it rot because as the wood rots it also creates other O-Zone killing agents, the wood was going to be burnt anyway.
