Is that Kenneth Branagh as the general with the beard?

got it, watched it (more than once), loved it. i recommend it to everyone who is a) interested in brannagh´s work and foremost b) who likes mozart´s magic flute. maybe not for the specialized opera purist, but if you go for the whole experience of visuals, sound and interpretation, you´re in for a treat.

Je l'ai vue, mais je prefère cette-ci parce que c'est plus étonnante: j'adore la créativité de Branagh, sa effrénée imagination...

I love Mozart and his Magic Flute and I like Kenneth Branagh, I adore him. And he is well known for his experimental TV-adaptions, for instance of Shakespeare. But with all respect here he has gone too far. To combine Mozart's Magic Flute with World War I is a no-go - a mismatch. Mozart would probably turn around in his grave if he was aware of this.

I saw this at the Carmike cinema Tuesday. I hope it will be shown again, because I will go.

Just in case anybody is wondering (and I'm sure you all are) the fabulous orchestra playing it's heart out here, is The Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

I like that the trenches could be the "giant serpent" from the singspiel

I like Branagh but this is simply RIDICULOUS and unnecessary.

    Never heard of this.

Who funded it? How was it released?

Did it go straight to DVD or has it been on TV?

    If so, what channels?
