In 1998 WORLDwrite Brazil exchange participants made their first film. To mark the 10th anniversary the charity has digitised their work. Many of the lessons learned and discussion raised remain remarkably pertinent 10 years on.

This interview with a Brazilian agronomist sums up the films message : "Imagine that the history of the world had been different. Imagine that the renaissance, the explosion of scientific knowledge and the agricultural revolution has not taken place in Europe but in one of the tropical countries. Wed visit the vast prairies of the United States, like you visit the Amazon, and tell you that there was no chance of ever building farms there, that the winters were too hard and that there were not enough nutrients in the soil to support regular harvesting. Wed tell you that your only hope was to learn from the native Indians. You should leave the prairies to grass and each year just hunt a number of buffalo guided by strict ecological principles. Wed tell you that to try anything different would destroy the ecosystem for ever. Yes, if history had been a little bit different, thats how it would have turned out. Wed have been providing the stupid advice.

  • Yeah, Brazil is much more than that. Actually, most of the people live in one especific region of the country: southeast. Amazonia and all of this "jungle-monkey-banana thing" is far from our reality. If you think that Amazonia equals Brazil, I'll have to think that the Arizona Desert equals United States, and well, all of us know that isn't right. Amazonia is just a part of our country, but for sure doesn't define our whole nation, just a part of it.

Midia Ilusionista e impressionista!

  • I think you must do more than looking at the wikipedia before you make a trash stupid movie about Brazil! Have you already heard about the fifth biggest city all over the world, São Paulo? Yeah, babe, that's Brazil! The most beautifull beaches and places to visit? This is Brazil! Development, Industries, very very high quality agriculture... THAT's Brazil. Nothing else to say: This video just SUCKS!

  • This video is just a shame! What a hell was on your head when you've posted it? Let's just stop and think for a little while: You want to convince me that you know somethyng about Brazil, but you've made lots of mistakes that are no acceptable! Brazil is not in Amazon: Amazon is in Brazil! Acttually Amazon is only one small if you consider all the AMAZING things about Brazil. And your second mistake: Why do you think mexican music is the same as Brazilian music? (Continues)

  • terrible video! Very ignorant point of view with total lack of respect to Brazil, its diversity and local/different cultures. Please do not share this and "sell" it as if you been there and know what your talking about. It's a shame! If you really want to do something serious i'd be more than glad to help and discuss with you.

  • EU AMO O BRASIL! I LOVE THE BRAZIL!

  • I'm from Brazil. I'm from Amazon, but Amazon isn't that, Amazon is more than that. I love my country.
