"The timing on "Revenge" is just a slap-back on a four-beat. Its somewhere between a James Brown beat and a Stones beat. Every second verse we cut a corner before the chord. I dont know how we found that rhythm. Maybe it was X. [X drummer] D.J. Bonebrake used a lot of those corner-cutting beats. I love those X records, but I never really thought that sort of thing would work with Whiskeytown until "Revenge" happened."
