  • this is amazing. There is another artist, a woman, (well a real woman), that based her artwork around the idea of consumism and how you hate it and love it at the same time. I think it is really honest.

  • @misternylon - thanks for the tip! I'll have a look out for it :-)

  • @expatbritingermany If you can get hold of it in Germany, I would recommend 'Portrait of the artist as a young girl' by Wendy Jones. The monograph of Grayson Perry is by Jacky Klein, both books are an excellent insight into his life and work.

  • @expatbritingermany Lets say maybe I was a bit harsh in my choice of words. I got on the defensive as I have recently held him in such high regard (and it would appear that the British Museum agree, having given him an entire show to curate) I don't really pay the cross dressing thing much attention and felt that focusing on that alone in a comment was to disregard his importance in British art. I see now that you have some genuine interest in him.

  • @misternylon - can you explain to me what exactly is 'dumb' about my comment? I can only assume you you are unable to comprehend it. The only reason I looked Grayson Perry up on here was because I heard an interesting interview with him the other day which really impressed me. So I know exactly why he dresses up in women's clothes - but in the interview he presented his female look as being rather more realistic. What I see here is more Widow Twankey.

  • Is this Larry Grayson's sister?

  • He makes total sense and speaks of the 'now' without pretentious artspeak, his art is hugely important. Instant museum level work that will speak volumes to future generations like beautifully crafted time capsules. Not only does he manage to tackle head on the issues of consumerism, crime and gender but cleverly slot it all into the wider spectrum of art history by referencing iconic shapes, styles and techniques of centuries gone by.

    Genius.

  • If he's going to dress up as a woman, why does it have to be a 'pantomime dame' à la Little Britain? Is he trying to make fun of women by doing that?

  • @ProfessorCrispin Well as parents they should love him but apparently not , can't understand why..............

  • I can't get enough of this video! Grayson Perry is definatly one of my favorite contemporary artists, he's clever and thoughful and it shows in his beautiful work- plus, look at him! Not afraid to be himself. That's the kind of guy we need to have on the front of magazines, not the people on that vase from 'Take A Break'!!! Really interesting videoxx
