"Read Write Now" was a television series developed by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) from the Republic of Ireland in 2000.
"Read Write Now" was developed to motivate adults who struggle with poor reading and writing skills to enroll in literacy classes.
This series continued for 5 series, up to 2004, and was shown on RTÉ television at prime time. Each edition presented a single learner, his/her story and added learning bits. Alongside the tv show interested viewers could order workbooks for free, get support to complete the exercises on the phone free of charge and access a website (www.literacytools.ie) offering interactive exercises.
This successful approach for distance education (and - more than that - motitivating learners to get back to learning) was continued 2006 and 2007 with the production of "Really Useful Guide to Words and Numbers", a studio-based TV series and currentyl the 8 half-hour TV programme "Written Off?"
