It truly makes me weep for the generations to come who will never understand the significance and beauty of the traditional Lutheran liturgy. I became Lutheran BY CHOICE when I was in high school. The hymns and the liturgy, coupled with the doctrine, were the reasons I embraced the Lutheran Church (WELS) in Lake Geneva, WI. I'll be forever grateful for the opportunity to have experienced Lutheranism at its finest! Thank you for this video. I've bookmarked it! God's blessings to you, beamn318!

Hearing this has made me cry! I miss this SO much. The LCMS church I attend now uses a completely different version and the magnificent beauty of this peace has been lost! It breaks my heart to see the liturgy watered down to a contemporary audience and the beautiful old hymns discarded in favor of current Christian rock. Some of the new music is wonderful, don't get me wrong. But the incredible beauty and meaning of being Lutheran has been lost.

Who was it that said the organ never breaths? When playing for congregational singing, we must give them space/time to breathe. Music needs space/rests as well - a wonderful juxtaposition to sound/music. "I miss it so much" - wow I was the musician at the host church in 1979 when the 'new' hymnal came out. I thought the day was great, ending with Evening Prayer, with INCENSE. Comments then would not have led me to believe I'd see yours in print. BTW I had to play up an octave to hear the organ.

the old hymnal!!! I miss it so much. I honestly would go to church more if they used the green hymnal

I do not like the new hymnal...the old one has all the good music...

Certainly Hillert's canticle is beautiful- but it's hardly "classical!"
Thanks for the tips.

I've never even played this with the congregation
I was playing by ear, not sheet music
