It was freezing this morning getting up in Ely, Nevada. A few of us took a fieldtrip to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, home of the world land speed records. Although these flats are known for their high-speed auto races, their racing potential was first acknowledged in the late 1800s by a scout who was looking for bicycle race courses throughout the U.S. So, two of our riders set out to ride the world-famous flats. We arrived to find over 400 cars and motorcycles from around the world gearing up for Bonneville Speed Week. Every kind of car and motorcycle from each corner of the world, and every era, were settle on these magnificent flats to break speed records. The salt flats themselves are truly spectacular. It looks like snow, but it is pure salt in the high desert. It is truly one of the most spectacular sights weve seen so far. Otherworldly.
