"Songs should be heard and not seen." (very old saying) Therefore: do not expect any fancy video stuff here - it's just a nice traditional ballad plus some music I wrote for it.
.
Details: As for the ballad itself, check it out for example at wikipedia - there is a lot of background info regarding all the different versions of it, etc, etc.

The version I have used can be found here:
http://www.wahlbrinck.de/studios/balladeer.htm
.
When I bumped into the ballad about 20 years ago, I did not know if there existed any musical version, but I did like the text, and so I fiddled around with my 12-string guitar and wrote the music to it. Then I recorded everything on my 4-track analog mini studio, to wit: 12-string guitar, synthie organ, synthie accordion, vocals. Now, I do know that my voice leaves a lot to be desired (I ain't fishing for no compliments here!), but I also believe that the music fits the ballad nicely. Therefore, if you like the tune and have a good voice, do pick up your guitar, go to your local pub or some place and see if other people like it too. (Come to think of it: if you pass a hat, I'd appreciate 10% of the proceeds ;-)

I do wonder who put my song there!

  • I think this is great, I don't really see anything wrong with the voice.

I love that poem, and you did a good job putting it to song.

  • Thank you so much - I do appreciate that.
