All living and dead aside, this act is just terrible. Not even close to Bill's original lineup or sound. Just awful-sounding white guys cashing in and taking money from folks who don't know any better.
Although the death of John Lane is sad to note, I'm afraid any statement that the originals are dead is completely incorrect. As noted, Marshall Lytle, Joey Ambrose and Dick Richards are (as of March 7/07) currently performing in Europe as The Comets, and were with Haley in April 1954 when they recorded Rock Around the Clock. Other 1950s-era Comets still alive (but not currently performing) are Al Rex, Franny Beecher and Lane's rival, Al Rappa.
Despite your aggressive attitude, (you called ME a jackass) I'm very sorry to hear of your friend's death. If you ever get the chance to see the Comets perform, you will see how much better they are than this group of 'wannabe Comets'.
You cannot call someone who joined the band in 1964 an original member!
The last three originals Johnny Grande, Franny Beecher and Billy Williamson had all gone by 1963. John Lane joined some twelve years after the band had formed, when they had become a very watered-down (some would say lame) version of the original band, whose line-up changed with virtually every gig. They did not deserve to use the Comets' name.
There are at least three of the ORIGINAL Comets alive today.
Joey Ambrose (sax 1953-55), Dick Richards (drums 1953-55)and Marshall Lytle (bass 1951-55) who are all still touring as The Comets. (The REAL Comets, that is).
After searching the internet, I eventually found a reference to 'John Bam Bam Lane' on the 'Lustig Talent Enterprises' website which quotes him as "one of the most popular Comets of all time!" What a load of crap!
Evidently jackass you don't know what you're talking about. All the origanals are dead. The only one left in this video is my friend John Bam Bam Lane, the drummer who started with Bill when he was 17. I also hate to inform you that John died two days ago in NJ. So before you start mouthing off, know you're facts. Don Allen
I would hand each one of these guys a cyanide tablet after this show. Sad.

I must make a correction to my above comment - Al Rappa is still performing with his own group of Comets, such as they are. A typo on my part.
