"This film captures the spirit of Mars pioneers who refuse to let their dreams be put on hold by a slumbering space program. Their passionate urge to walk the soil of an alien world is infectious and inspirational. This film is the manifesto of the new space revolution." James Cameron

The Mars Underground - Pioneers for the Next World

Leading aerospace engineer and Mars Society President Dr. Robert Zubrin has a dream. He wants to get humans to the planet Mars in the next ten years.

Now, with the advent of a revolutionary plan, Mars Direct, Dr. Zubrin shows how we can use present day technology and natural resources on Mars to make human settlement possible. But can he win over the skeptics at NASA and the wider world?

The Mars Underground is a landmark documentary that follows Dr. Zubrin and his team as they try to bring this incredible dream to life. Through spellbinding animation, the film takes us on a daring first journey to the Red Planet and envisions a future Mars teeming with life and terraformed into a blue world.

A must-see experience for anyone concerned for our global future and the triumph of the human spirit.

Yes, well, as I've understood it, the Mars Direct idea was brought up between 1990 and 1998. And I've not seen any real progress what so ever. After all they've had about 20 years to do something. On the other hand, Mars One was founded around 2011(?) and they're allready somewhat far in their plans. I'm not sayin Mars One is better than Direct, to me it doesn't really matter if one gets there before the other.

But worth aiming for certainly! The shield could be semi-clear and control how much UV/Infrared goes through so the Weather and Temperature could be moderated ---or even fluctuated to emulate the Seasons!! Encouraging crops and cycles of seasons that our plants etc. have evolved with. Nice to see a YouTube chat stay civil, you are a Gentleman Kötél!

Well... Yeah, why not dream big, time is plenty. With Nano-technology we could probably even make a convex 'shield' at the Lagrangian point between Mars and the Sun that re-directs the solar wind 'around' Mars, while using the raw solar energy to run a non-stop ion propulsion drive that fights against the push of the wind to keep the shield in the same relative spot. Like our SDO (Solar Dynamic Observatory) ;~) Mitchio Kaku would call that a Level 3 civilization. May take a million years..

I don't think they've gone to the moon before because if they have a return will be the first option before mars...they should be screaming let's go back to the moon.

People should forget about the government doing this. It's too much money and a project that doesn't guarantee tripling the money invested. What I'm saying is its too much money on a project that isn't a war. Our focus should be on getting funding from private investors like billionaires and trillion aires. There's a billionaires that have retired that need a project with value to invest their money....if you have a vision.

What the fuck are you trying to keep humans alive for in mars when humans die every day on this planet, death is a part of the human experience. So if death is the reason you don't want to send people to mars that stupid.

Hey do you think that mars 1 is a scam or real? You can t just chose people to go to mars off some lottery system....it has to be more than that I believe based on academic achievements and more...also a persons history, you cannot place ex murders on the moon because they got chosen luckily except if you want it to happen again. Except if you need laborers to lay the ground work.

That is all true, the tectonic movements of Mars have ceased very fast, that's why its' atmosphere has no supply. But it's mass is still significant, so it could hold a thicker atmosphere.

Venus is another example: it has almost no magnetic field, it's closer to Sun (stronger solar wind interactions), but it has the thickest atmosphere in the Solar System. The reason for this is, that volcanoes supply it. We have to do the same on Mars: pump lot of gas into its atmosphere.

According to theories, Mars was a battleground and was nuked. The leftovers came here to fight with Atlantians (Left-brain/right-brain aspect) and gain control over this planet.
