  • To be more technical this is the day the blast furnace was idled, and put into a mothball state. The black smoke is from opening up the valves at the top of the blast tower, after recieving orders to do so...to release all pressure from the blast vessel. This operation is called a blowout. Yes what you are seeing is very dirty air. This is an end to the great 19th and 20th century blast furnace giants. I highly doubt this furnace will be reactivated being bought out by Remco Steel.

  • @step2191 I would hope not that stuff pollutes the air so much it is disgusting.

  • this is a blast furnace blow, not an explosion.. they have a PORV at the top of the furnace to release excessive pressure. If the PORV fails, THEN you'll have an explosion.

  • @UncleJer410 Thank God. :) When we save our steel we save America

  • Lets close all steel mills and tear them down and build more govt tax payer funded parks where little girls can get raped and dope addicts can tap the vein and dirty hippies can ride their pretty little dildo bikes. YAY for left wing thinking

  • @TruthinessStudios you want to see real dirty air??? go to china. thats where all american steel industry has been going for the last 30 years and guess what you one track mind lefty........ there IS NOT any regulation on pollution there. at here in the states we try our best to have a clean industrial base.

But it wont ever be good enough for you red lefty freaks until every industry is shut down and we are all at the poor house sucking and sucking on the govt teat.

  • @TruthinessStudios your way of thinking is disgusting. men and women cant make money at parks, bike trails, museums, culture centers, and any other govt issued crap that takes these steel plants places once hippies like you force them out of buisness with your out reality epa regulations.

  • L Furnace is back up and running. We began casting slabs again this past Tuesday, and I'm thrilled. We have earned and maintained our ISO 140001 certification (environmental standard) which isn't easy to do. Our pollution is reduced significantly. Pollution is an unfortunate reality in this business, but at least here in the USA we take measures to prevent it. Manufacturing is critical to our Country's survival, and we've already lost so much of it....

  • @TruthinessStudios The plant has been there over 100 years, long before the current surrounding neighbors bought their homes. They knew there was a steel plant there when they did. You also know that our pollution is significantly lower than ever, thats how we earned our enviro ISO cert. Now look at CHINA, where pollution control is nonexistent, they are polluting with IMPUNITY. Check it for yourself. I hope for our sake we keep rolling out the steel. God bless.
