There are more than 3,000 satellites orbiting earth. While we go about our daily lives, these contraptions are hard at work in our stratosphere, beaming the latest episodes of American Idol, snapping photos of black holes, and enabling governments to spy on obscure regions of Afghanistan. Leroy Chiao, the 311th astronaut in space, takes us on a tour of some satellites past and present.

  • why go to an other planet when we can't even sustain this one?

  • this reminds me of a boring science video my teacher put on one day

  • More Transparency vids please

  • @adrastea99 GPS guidance on their ICBMs ? mmh... "Select your destination... You choosed Moscow...Press "launch"...Turn on the right at 600 meters,... Turn on the right at 300 meters...100 meters...Well done ! You've just killed 10 million people :D." All of this with a female sensual voice.

  • The Russians have the best satellite ability, something like half of their satellite fleet are basically reserved for kamikaze space weapons so NATO can't have satellite communication or GPS guidance on their ICBMs in the case that WWIII breaks out.

  • Solar orbiter power beam coming to an oil-rich country near you...

What do you think - that the Pentagon is in the flower-sniffin business?

They are there to murder people.

    How naive can one be?

  • @trakkaton The ignorant pawns hide behind insults and superstitions - You know nothing of interest... stop trolling - I will ignore you from now on.

  • Once proven wrong the ignorant coward takes refuge in the alleged subjectivity of the subject.
