No, you can use an SD to have more space for videos and pictures but its not necessary.

No its just that we play on a widescreen tv but recording equipment I use records in standard.

You use your own equipment to record the videos? I thought SSBB had a feature that saved matches, so you can watch them later?

Yea I messed with it a little but the SD card fills up quick and the Wii doesn't have that much memory so if we are playing for a few hours and recording all of it to look back through we run out of space real quick. The equipment I use records to my computer.
