CHAN:
A deadly day on an Indian Kashmir highway yesterday. At least 20 road workers are feared dead after a landslide smashed into trucks. Here's more.
STORY:
Officials believe around 28 workers were caught in the landslide. Several have been rescued. An eyewitness gives his account.
[Abdul Khaliq, Eyewitness]:
"A landslide took place, a huge rock fell from up there and all of them got buried under it. Our truck was under it. My friend pulled me out and pushed me down to the ground. I don't know how many survived, I feel really sad, I don't know what to say. I hear they took out a man alive, but then, heard that even he succumbed."
The mishap occurred in the Kishtwar district. It's located about 215 kilometers northeast of Jammu, which is the winter capital of the Himalayan region.
Officials say it hasn't been easy rescuing the people from the area affected by the landslide.
[Riaz Ahmed, Rescue Worker]:
"We had to blast the hills in order to rescue them. I do not think there was any other way out."
