@captaincomputa, the song wasn't/isn't about Ian, being that U2 had already been performing the song with the given lyrics since 1979. But in part due to his passing, since the song dealt with the issue of suicide, in addition to being a great composition(particularly this rendition), they made this the first recording of the Boy album sessions along with Things to Make and Do, giving Steve Lillywhite a good test-out. Kapeesh?
