Carl Sagan gave his last interview with Charlie rose on May 27th 1996. He discussed pseudo-science, religion, unfounded claims, his personal love affair with science and his struggle with myelodysplasia as well as other elements of his last book: The Demon-Haunted World.
I thought it was important that a high quality copy of this interview, with proper audio video sync, was made available on youtube.
The Demon-Haunted World changed my life in ways more profound than I thought possible. That book, and the name of Carl Sagan, should be known to every high school graduate.
"Better the hard truth, I say, than the comforting fantasy. And in the final tolling it often turns out that the facts are more comforting than the fantasy."

If everyone accepted what is, then we would all be scientific atheists.
The problem arises, when someone claims something which couldn't possibly be coherent with reality. I'm sorry, but religion does this far too often to just get along with, or not have contempt for.
Also, you don't BELIEVE in science, science requires no belief. Even a hypothesis isn't a belief.
Belief arises when you don't KNOW something, and assert an answer where there isn't one. Answers are found, not made up.
Anyways, this is a silly hyperbolic statement, you've just made.
It really doesn't mean anything. In what way was Carl Sagan an ignorant, egotistical zealot?
I generally disagree with your statement, it's just flat out false.
Most scientists are gentle, genuinely humble people. I don't know what scientists you've been bumping into. I think you just have something against atheists.
Not to mention, where did I say anything about ignorance, ego, or zealots?
I'm sure you're just trying to get out some misplaced anger.
Yes, most scientists are doing much more in terms of beneficial hard work for the human race, than religious people. Yes, they usually will say "I don't know" when asked a question, which they don't yet know the answer to. Yes, their objective by nature of their profession is, to take their ego out of the equation, and cannot spare a moment of ignorance.
The problem I have niginit is when people of any faith or belief try to assume that they are right above all others.
I'm not saying Sagan was wrong on any level but I just find it foolish and arrogant to assume that you know best simply because you base all of your knowledge on what science can prove.
If you can't learn to live with those who have different faiths / beliefs / ideas then you are no better than the religious zealot who hates you because you don't believe in their god.
But honestly I wouldn't expect you to understand what I'm talking about because I'm talking about compassion and understand on a cultural and human level not something you can write down in numbers.
You're a complete idiot. Thanks for making that so clear. Now I don't have to waste my time debating you.

In all seriousness, though. Everything you just said was completely idiotic, I suggest you do a great deal more reading. WOW, it's just hard to be confronted with stupidity "on that level". I've witnessed a new low.
Take a good look at what you said, fix your logic, then maybe we talk....
If you're talking about the christian god, it's because they make genuinely incompatible claims about the universe.
If you're talking about a vague wishy-washy notion of a prime mover, it's because there's no evidence of that yet, and if you deeply imbibe the scientific method, you realize that belief without evidence is irrational.

'can' doesn't equate to 'does'.
