These heather-flecked moors are a short walk from the Bronte Parsonage, which itself is very close to Haworth. By mid October, when I shot this, the heather had largely turned from purple to brown. Emily would have walked here, as child, teenager and adult; this area inspired some if not all of her nature-mystic poetry, and, of course Wuthering Heights, her novel. Date clip was shot: 13th October 2007. There was drizzle in the air - hence the misty look to the moors. Note: the average age of death in Haworth in the Brontes' time was 25.8 years. 41% of the population died before age 6.

  • It must be freezing outhere!

  • @gabrielazayas No, it was a mild-ish October day, with drizzle in the air and a bit of a wind [which the camera picks up!]

  • Lovely! Love the Bronte country

  • It's truly amazing to think you are looking at exactly what the Brontes would have looked at...minus the hydro poles, of course! ;)

  • My favourite place to go when in England

  • Beautiful!

  • ah but these moors have that extra dimension; the brontes lived here, walked here, dreamed up their novels here - and composed their poems here :-) In Emily's case, she communed with nature/the gods..here.

  • Isn't it strange that so many of us view our homeland as true perfection, and base our judgments of each new place based on that standard? So many of you find this place so lovely, that truly it must be! But it in my biased view, it pales in comparison to my New England. We are creatures of habit, to be sure.

  • got to horton not howarth its much better and the views are about 10x better oh and its north yorkshire so the ppl are better as well! :p

  • If you want to see the heather flowering go there in mid August, not the spring!

  • There is something so eerie and haunting about this place. I would love to visit some day especially in spring when the heather is purple. I think I can understand how such a landscape had a powerful hold on Emily.

  • It's such a beautiful place, I try to make it to Haworth at least twice a year :)

Sassoon, I couldn't have put it better myself!
