What is a doula?

This is a short film I made with Anna Van Wagoner for the Cape Fear Area Doulas who played it at their booth at the Birth Expo here in Wilmington.

I personally know a couple whose baby suffered serious brain injuries because of "natural" home delivery under supervision of a doula.  Do yourselves a favor. Get your ass into a hospital, and fast.

Doulas are not trained in "'natural home delivery'" as my video explains. Doulas are trained to assist a woman pre-natally, in labor and post-partum not to deliver babies.

the average weening age world-wide is 2 1/2. the US is the weird one here, not the rest of the world. that baby is the norm, not the exception.

We most certainly do! The midwife is there for medical support. The doula does everything the video says. Just google Doula UK.

We don't have this word 'Doula' in the UK. I never heard it before.I'm not sure if we even have that position. The Midwife would take care of everything.

Cornbruiser, learn the facts before you tell people doulas are unsafe. Doulas and midwives do not perform the same functions--doulas DON'T SUPERVISE BIRTH.

The only possible way that a doula that was doing her job could have injured a baby would be if she dropped it, which could happen to anyone (even trained obstetricians).
