Director/Editor: Lee Gordon Demarbre
Inspired by the career and filmography of 60s gore-meister Herschell Gordon Lewis (currently enjoying a renaissance with such high-profile remakes as 2001 Maniacs and The Wizard of Gore), Smash Cut is a gore-splattered satire of the blood sport known as filmmaking.
It's the story Able Whitman (David Hess), a horror-film director whose career is on its final reel. At an advance screening for Able's latest film, the audience breaks into peals of laughter. Needles to say, the film is not a comedy just incompetent.
Drowning his sorrows at a local strip club, Able meets dancer Gigi Spot. Minutes later, he's convinced her to star in his next film. Minutes after that, he's killed her in a drunk driving accident. Desperate to dispose of the corpse, he uses her body parts as props in his new film. Suddenly, everyone loves his dailies, praising them for their realism and he has the makings of a hit on his hands.
Now, only intrepid Smash Cut reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) and celebrated private detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) stand between the demonic director and his unquenchable thirst for butchery at 24 frames per second!
