This is the first of what will be a series of jazz guitar lessons. Roy will take a number of jazz standards and play a solo guitar version with bass accompaniment. He will then, in separate videos, take you through the solo, explaining his approach to chord melody, single line improvisation and block chord solos. In additional videos he will talk generally about the lessons he has learnt from a lifetimes experience on matters such a getting a good jazz sound, type of guitar, pickup and amplification, picks and picking. All this will be backed up on his website by modestly priced transciptions in notation and tab. See further www.roysainsbury.com

  • An excellent, relaxed and thoughtful interpretation.

  • I can hear the Eddie Van Halen influence...lol....Nice playing, nice feel.

  • Ahh, what a gem. This is on his album "My Foolish Heart", well worth a listen. It

is interesting to compare the improvisation with the same tune on the album . Looking forward to seeing/hearing more!

  • Wow - this blew me away - real cool jazz. I'll be back for more.

  • Maybe kind of a sterile descriptive term, but "flawless" comes to mind. Both the chord melody and single note playing are beautiful and swinging -- and I like the "The Song is Ended" quote. Looking forward to more vids!

  • Authentic and swinging YEAH Roy! - Im looking forward to the rest of the series Howard

  • I wonder if " Pop Stars" can play like this?

It's got that " Swing" , brings a smile to my face , and warms my heart.

Well done Roy , well done.

  • Superb sound Roy. A lovely piece and the old lady sounding as sweet as ever.

  • Lovely, swinging playing and a beautiful sound. The chordal work is excellent and puts me in mind of Kenny Burrell and Barney Kessel. I like the "pianist's left hand" self-accompaniment approach, with those perfectly timed two-note interjections on the lower strings after a single-line run.

  • One of the best Jazz guitar tones on You Tube , you can hear every note ,every chord , every nuance , with a super arrangement too ! Delightful .

I hope you`re going to post some more .
