Good song in my humble opinion. On the original version by the Cleaners from Venus Captain Sensible plays electric guitar. Martin and Captain are good friends and wrote a bunch of songs together and Cap got The Brotherhood of Lizards signed to Deltic Records. Later on they were both on Humbug Records / Trident, other label mates were The Jacobites, Monty a.o.
there's a fabulous book by giles smith, the other half of the cleaners from venus, called 'lost in music', imho it's =best music book along with 'cider with roadies' by stuart maconie. fine cd 'living with victoria grey' by the cleaners, ilya on it twice, slow and fast versions. well worth a purchase.
i dont think the cap'n plays on the original cassette version does he?!

i really like this. i heard the original version and i think i prefer this one. 80s production spoiled many a good song.

Thanks, a real treat!
I taped this song off the radio 15 years ago. I had no idea who wrote or sung it but its wit and originality haunted me.
Then Google and the web came along. I typed in a line of the lyrics and discovered Martin Newell. And now here's the man himself.
