Windows XP Home Edition SP2 running on HP Pavilion 6630.

NOTE: DO NOT SAY "INSTALL SP3 ON THIS COMPUTER" BECAUSE SP3 WILL JUST MAKE THE COMPUTER VERY SLOW!!! AND DO NOT SAY "UPGRADE THE RAM" BECAUSE THIS COMPUTER CAN ONLY HOLD 256MB OF RAM AND I DO NOT HAVE 2 128 MB STICKS RIGHT NOW. IF YOU SAY EITHER "INSTALL SP3 OR UPGRADE THE RAM" YOU WILL BE BLOCKED PERMANENTLY. NO SECOND CHANCE UNLESS I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS.

Anways, I installed Windows XP using a HP OEM Disc but it asked for activation, I don't know why. I tried HP Product Detection on that computer and It wouldn't detect the computer, I don't know why either. Any help can be appericated.

  • My friend is giving me a Pavilion 6630 with the stock install of Windows ME, 64MB RAM, and 500Mhz Celeron but I"m planning on installing Windows 98se because I like the themes on it!

  • Thanks for the video post. I also have the HP Pavilion 6630. I have nLited XP Home (OEM version) with SP3 running on it and no problems at all. I was tempted to do a bios upgrade but decided not to because of the reported system sound issue.

The official HP documentation for the 6630 says this computer can only accommodate 256MB of RAM (128MB x 2). Well, I have a total of 500MB on my unit (256MB x 2) and have not encountered any problems.
