On a #55 Hiawatha line train, headed north across the Cedar Avenue overpass toward the Franklin Avenue station.
When riding through cities on Amtrak or local rail transit, one often sees long stretches of junky, cluttered old industrial back yards alongside the tracks. This short stretch of the former Milwaukee Road main line, barely two blocks, is the only such segment along the Hiawatha line. In the late afternoon sun, the train's pantograph casts its shadow as we pass all those blank walls. You may get a glimpse of the bicyclists in the train's shadow as well - a bikeway runs alongside the track.
