Many of my friends voted for Obama; in fact, several of them were with me election night when I sang a spin-off of the Ramones' "I wanna be Sedated". The next night, having written the complete song, "I wanna be Obamaed", I returned to Palmer's in Redmond, WA, and sang it. The idea, of course, is to get President-Elect Obama to view it, and for me to get to dance to it with Michelle Obama and Sarah Palin on Oprah. Hey, I'm outta work -- it ought to be good for something! :-D
UPDATE: Oh, my heck! Someone (A Canadian, so that MAY explain it) wrote me and claimed that the origin of my line "eat crow" came from cookies served during the Jim Crow law era, and is "appalling".
PEOPLE PLEASE! Enough already! The phrase "eat crow" has its origins as late as 1850 (well before the Jim Crow laws) and potentially as early as the War of 1812, and is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM linked to President-Elect Obama's race. In fact, this entire video is meant to be a Pro-Obama statement, poking fun at myself, and stating my willingness and enthusiasm to "get on board" with his upcoming mandates for change.
I have to say that I am FURIOUS that people -- Canadians or not -- can IGNORE facts to create their own warped perceptions and bias. If they choose to do so -- and thus create lies as part of the message -- then I will stand up to them, stare them down, and say "Your warped sense of propriety, political correctness, and false linguistic history is, frankly, a lie. Not only don't I have to agree with it, but in fact I can disagree with it and claim that, in creating lies to support your distorted and warped sense of "truth", you are showing more prejudice than I could ever dream of having."
My Canadian "friends" said they were "appalled" that I was "Oblivious" to the impact of using the phrase "I say I'm sorry; I have to eat crow... " (supposedly because of the false linguistic history they quoted). IF I am oblivious, it is only to the potential lies and half-truths being thrown about in our so-called politically correct world.
Let me make a couple things clear:
1) I am not, nor have I ever been, a racist -- even though I grew up in "mixed" neighborhoods, so certainly had the opportunity to make that choice. I, along with my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, all made that choice -- to live where we lived so we could associate and be friends with people of all races, creeds, religions, and persuations.
2) I will not tolerate other people -- cunning linguists or not! -- making up stories to show how racist the world is. To say that "eating crow" has linguistic origins in the Jim Crow law era is a flat-out lie. And a falsehood is a falsehood, no matter what the "perception" is, and I will take great pains to make certain the truth is known (another similar lie is about the common tool, the "crowbar").
3) In my opinion, people who make up those lies, and who get on their high and mighty horses and call other people to "repentance" or whatever it is that they're calling them to, are more racist, more inflamatory, than those they are pointing fingers at
4) Perception MUST ALWAYS play second fiddle to Truth and Reality.
BTW, the next time I performed this, I changed some of the lyrics from the "eat crow" lines to "I say I'm sorry; I didn't know / I'd want to be Obamaed"... but that was well before the righteous Canadians got in touch with me...

@ RoseGraves1 I bet you were the ugly drunk chick on the video. Stop hating, not like the original lyrics are deep or anything.

this dude is retarded and i hate using that word but he is. wtf! dude, piece of advice, give up the karaoke first then look in the mirror and realize that you aren't a rock-star, the ugly old drunk chick in the video proves that. and last, stop saying you got to eat crow in the same sentence as i wanna be sedated or you might find yourself in that situation behind your bar one night after one too many songs. do yourself a favor and grow the hell up man child.

I found this definition for eating crow.
eat crow: to publicly admit you were wrong about something.
No. I was not affended at all. I took it just as the definition stated; "to publicaly admit you were wrong about something." It's just not a BLACK offensive saying like the "N" word. I wouldn't change a word. A Proud African-American & Obama Supporter

I just watched this again and it's every bit as funny as the first time. I appreciate your humor -- you aren't putting anybody else down. You're right -- it's time to roll up our sleeves and reach across "the aisle" (doesn't matter if it's to the right or left of "your side") and work together! Let's quit nit picking (and that comes from when people had to pick louse nits out of their hair) and look for the positive in each other. Keep on making us laugh!
