Recorded in northern Jamaica, during a trip of the JAFSP - this video is of a kumina group. Kumina drummers play at traditional Jamaica wakes, during an African ceremony called a "Nine Night" or "Dead Yard". These ceremonies still continue in certain parts of rural Jamaica, where drummers play all night long for wakes and other celebrations. Note - Eric Wills (Director of JAFSP) on kata sticks :) Anyone interested in participating in the yearly trips of the Jamaica Field Service Project should contact info@jafieldservice.com or visit the program website.
