Sun Yuan & Peng Yu - UCCA (Ullens) Opening Night November 16th 2009 - David Foox

Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, two friends of mine from the wonderful place of artistic achievement often called UCCA or Ullens (in honor of the founder Baron Guy Ullens of Belgium) created this installation and performance piece of art for the opening of the show at the UCCA on November 16th 2009.

The gist of the artwork is (according to the artists), "Each person thinks of one thing, when putting them together, an expressive relationship will be built in between."

The functionality of the piece is that a GIANT SMOKE RING is formed and blown across a long black hallway. As it reaches the other side it is dissipated by a sweeping broom moving in a circular motion.

It is hypnotic and fun. I really enjoyed hearing the boom, watching the smoke roll across, and then break apart.

Very ingenious.
