  • Rubinstein's interpretation of the Polonaise in A flat, as he played it in the late 40's and early 50's it yet to be matched by anyone for its complete grasp of the heroic stature of the composition. Yes, other pianists have smoother scales, etc. but so what? Many of them completely miss the point of the composition. Rubinstein gets the big picture correct. Others are immersed in trivial details.

  • "Yup," as the dumb American who has ears responded.

The greatest pianist (and the greatest pair of wrists) I have ever heard or seen.

Not to mention the greatest ears. He was a wonderment.

  • You are one wild and crazy guy. Blind Faith, Liszt and Chopin!! And a shout out to Jimi up in Heaven. You rock!

Polanaise and Liebestraum were my childhood recital pieces. Others included Blue Danube, Hungarian Rhapsody and Grieg's P.C. in A minor.
