A fairly quick EDUCATIONAL rant about the music industry, and their absolute paranoia over "copyright infringement". If I had the money I'd fight them and argue "fair use" laws, but they have more money and more lawyers. And as we all know you don't need to be right, you just need to have the right lawyers.

And a LINK! http://www.hollywoodtoday.net/2008/12/21/warner-music-group-pulls-the-plug-on... Warner Music is throwing a hissy fit because youtube isn't paying them enough money! A multi-BILLION dollar company is pulling a juvenile stunt. Thanks Warner Music! And thanks youtube for bending over and taking it rather than stepping up to defend your users! Way to go!!!!

I believe it was Carlos Santana who said something like this first. "They claimed that home taping would kill the music industry. Then they said home CD's would kill the music industry. Then napster would kill the music industry. Bad music is what's killing the music industry."

§ 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use40

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include —

(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;

(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and

(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.

  • This guy is so fucking right.

    99% of the bands that I developed a liking for....I discovered them via AMV's, or game footage videos, or etc etc. Or they were recommended to me by a friend.

    People are downloading music @ FULL QUALITY gigabytes and gigabytes at a time. What the fuck is the point of banning it off youtube? Any idiot with an internet connection can download the song that you just removed in less than 10 seconds anyway, and at full album quality.

    WMG or w/e are stupid.

  • Actually, I *have*, I'm internationally published, and I've been plagiarized in my lifetime. Did I think they were stealing my money? No, I was paid for my work already.

    Copyright law is broken, the artists who make the works aren't being compensated by the law, the publishers and executives are.

  • Huh? People go to youtube to download music? Name the CD and I'll have it downloaded to my desktop in minutes. Suckers!

  • AMEN Brother!!! :) They should be THANKING US or PAYING US for publicizing them! BUT NO, they want to SUE US? or STOP US?! Are they going to sue the radio stations? OH that's right, they PAY them to share their music....what's wrong with this picture? lol

  • @MrJeffshaver That's bullshit. If you devalue it then you're removing all the crap that comes with it. Devaluing it puts the emotional and cultural value back into music, and with that you'll get good artists doing what they're doing because they love music. Not because they want a new sport's car.

  • I just subed to your channel,will you check out mine and if you like the music please subcribe to me too. Thanks

  • you rock dude
