THis is great. I made a portable formicarium complete with case and all. it is so beautiful...problem is ants will not survive in it more than a couple of days. is plaster of paris posionous to ants? it was recommened that i use that as I live in America and find it hard to get ytong or pumice stones.

@jagreenable Well I've heard that plaster of paris can cause problems for some ants. I've never used it because of that very reason. But if you look on youtube you can see lots of plaster of paris in use for ants. Have you investigated anything else that could be killing them?

Is that Ytong?

@wowedo2 No. It's concrete that I mixed from a bag.

how did you cast the concrete and what did you use to make the tunnels?

@theshield2004 wow this took me a while to get back to lol. I just took a piece of glass from a picture frame and made an outline of it on a large flat board and I used those lines as a reference to stay within. Then I mixed the concrete up kind of thick (for strength over time and for form). I made the tunnels by molding modeling clay on the board and scooping the concrete on top of it. If you make the concrete thick enough you wont need a mold or anything to hold the concrete in place.
