The WildLab Educational Program uses the latest mobile technology to bring field experience to students. Students engage with scientific concepts and practices in an innovative, applied way. Working in groups equipped with binoculars and iPhones enabled with the WildLab application, students learn how to identify different species of birds, log their sightings, and make observations about the habitats in which the birds live. Students map their sightings, track them over time, and compare them with those of their classmates. The WildLab Educational Program is committed to an inquiry-based approach to environmental education that helps students gain an understanding of the methods of scientific observation, the multiple uses for technology in society, and the diversity of their local ecosystems.
The WildLab iPhone application became available as a free download in May 2010.
