I will eventually redo this video with cleaner footage and better transitions. Your suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated.
Awards -
Anime Festival Orlando 3 - "The Wandering Gaijin" Award
CNAnime 2002 - Best of Show
Notes -
This is my first AMV. My main goal was to make something that people would want to watch more than once. I wanted to accomplish this without resorting to flashy visuals unless they were used to progress the story. While this style will not help the video to win awards and/or recognition for its technical aspects, I am hoping that the viewer is the one that ultimately wins by seeing something that is truly entertaining. That being said, I hope that you enjoy this video.
Side notes -
I originally submitted this to Anime Expo 2002 as an action video. Sadly, it was not shown. I had not attended an AMV contest before AX 2002 so I did not know that videos in the action category usually have upbeat music (usually the current flavor of the month rock tune) and nonstop action. What I saw at the competition made it painfully obvious why my video had no chance of being shown. The video would have been better suited in the drama category. I had worked on this video for a long time so I wanted it to be seen by others. To make that happen, I planned out what was supposed to be the greatest summer vacation ever. By taking advantage of a friend that was able to get free plane tickets to anywhere in the US, I was going to go to several different conventions during my summer vacation. It's a pretty lame reason to travel around but I know that it would have been an awesome experience. Unfortunately, my mother had to have surgery that summer so those plans had to be scrapped. The saddest part was that this video actually won at two of the places I was supposed to go to. I had one chance to see the video at a live event in 2002 but the contest was cancelled for some odd reason. My last chance was Fanime 2003 since I missed the deadline for 2002. This video was shown during the semi-finals but it was on a Sunday and only about 30 people were around at the time. Fortunately, someone told me that one can put AMV info on this board so hopefully I can reach more people over here than I had by submitting to conventions.
The version that won at CNAnime and Anime Festival Orlando 3 started off with video stills instead of the manga scans seen in the updated version. It had been my intention to add them before my first submission but I did not have access to the manga until after the video was sent in.
This song and the clips are a perfect for each other. Thank you for creating it!
