The whole puzzle is pointless when you make it this big, you can clearly see there is no hypotenuse.

The Red Triangle is 8 units * 3 units giving its hypotenuse a gradient of 0.375
The Green Triangle is 5 units * 2 units giving its hypotenuse a gradient of 0.4
The Red Triangle is on the bottom left, the overall hypotenus of the shape isn't actually straight, it's slightly concave (tilted inwards)
When the Green Triangle is on the bottom left, the over hypotenuse is slightly convex (tilted outwards)
The difference in the inward and outward distortion in the 2 combinations is exactly 1 unit.

Use the time slider to switch between 8 seconds and 17 really quickly.
The hypotenuse of the initial triangle is not a straight line.
