I want to thank everyone out there that has been so nice to me about my other songs I have posted. You really don't have a clue if someone will like something you wrote and sung until you try! Thanks! This song is one that me and David Reuter wrote pretty quickly once we got it going. It was probably the most fun to write of all of our songs together. We laughed quite a bit writing this one! I hope you will like it! Please let me know what you think! Here are the lyrics...

Old School Honky Tonk
Collins and Reuter

Old School Honky Tonk Soft lights and hard drinkin

A red bar stool and and a juke box screaming

The crack of a cue ball ball breakin a rack

An old man lightin up a bent Pall Mall

A drunk dialing numbers off the bathroom wall

There's only two beers on Tap

The" O"s burned out on the Open sign

But people still know to come inside

The High Life clock ain't worked in years

So it's always happy hour here

You can keep your country clubs and your fancy resturants

Just give me my old school honky tonk

Sticky floors and Bouncer named Tiny

A long brass rail that used be shiny

A pinball machine that won't keep score

The smell of whisky mixed with perfume

Couple at the bar that needs to get a room

a 38 bullet hole in the front door

The" O"s burned out on the Open sign

But people still know to come inside

The High Life clock ain't worked in years

So it's always happy hour here

You can keep your country clubs

And your fancy restaurants

Just give me my old school honky tonk

Bridge

Ain't no need reservations, ain't no monthly dues

There's a flag behind the bar, cause we love the red, white and blue

The" O"s burned out on the Open sign

But people still know to come inside

The High Life clock ain't worked in years

So it's always happy hour here

You can keep your country clubs

And your fancy restaurants

Just give me my old school honky tonk

  • Dang Curt! Toby Keith needs to cut this song for you!

  • OMG Curt, I think I worked at this place when my kids were young!! LOL

Gosh it sure reminds me of the Crazy Horse Bar & Grill in Atlanta...:) Have many of wonderful memories of that place and still am friends with some of the folks that were my customers. I managed that place for 8 years and found out that, when it all boils down, we're all the same...just wanting to be wanted.

Loved this one and it's going straight to my favorites !! :)

    Love,Smiles&Hugs, Joyce ♥:)X

  • Curt,

Stopped by to give a listen. I was impressed. You understand the art of songwriting which is what so many others are missing. Now, you're at that stage of writing the numbers and getting with the right co-writers, publishers and that elusive first break. You will get it I have no doubt (if you can hang in there. So many cannot. thanks for all your kind words and I remember you from the Bluebird. Best of luck to you and again, you will see success as a writer!

    sincerely,

    Jon Michaels

  • this is cool one Curt I really enjoyed it! 5 stars!
