PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING!!. THIS WILL PISS YOU OFF, VW is not allowed by the US government to sell high milage cars to US consumers. VW even makes the cars here that get 78 mpg but must ship it over seas. I have added this link that shows a test drive world record with the passat which was 75 mpg US http://www.vehix.com/blog/most-popula... *****UPDATE**** I am still upset with myself for saying "THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION"t. I understand that it is government regulations that crosses over all party lines. It was just that i had watch Obama talking about better milage cars and that was what upset me to make this video. Please understand I do not place the blame on him alone, this has been going on for decades. It seems this one poorly said statement has put off a lot of people to this message. and the wrong camera angle.

why don't you try to buy one from canada?Make every year a trip there if regulations say you need to inspect it.Insurance i think can be purchased online. It's all about money...the more you spend, the more your goverment has.Of course they don't want everybody to buy electric or very efficient diesels :)

I can get us 65mpg in my Passat TDI easily if you drive steady over long distances there is a couple who got a record 1600 miles on one tank. Real world with city and highway is more like 40mpg.

I drive a standard 2 liter TDI in the UK, and it does 49.9 mpg. 30mpg can not be right.

If Americans switch on mass to high efficiency diesels the US government will just hike the price of diesel to compensate for the loss of tax revenue.

I just checked out the claim he made about the UK version getting combined MPG of 69. It's true. The diesel engine for the Passat sold in the US is a 2.0 liter with 140 hp. On that page it's the one in the middle. Says it gets 63 MPG on the highway with an automatic whereas in the U.S. it's rated at 40 MPG. If it's true that the emissions metric has fuel on the denominator, someone needs to get fired big time!

You do have to realize that a US gallon is NOT the same as a UK gallon, US gallon is 3.79 liters and a UK gallon is 4.5 liters, take that into consideration. However you're correct, in europe vehicles are more fuel efficient. Went over there last year and they had a daewoo with a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder engine.
