Concerto for electric violin played by Nigel Kennedy.
"Alone at the frontier, alone where all is clear,
no matter what they say, live your life your own way,
don't be ruled by fear, follow me to the frontier" DCH
In 1993 I was commissioned by the extraordinary violinist Nigel Kennedy to write a concerto for him------but it was to be a unique commission------he wanted to entirely improvise the solo part!
Alone at the frontier was premiered in Minneapolis in 1993 in this legendary performance.
In some ways Alone at the Frontier had to be seen to be understood, behind the orchestra was a 50ft high piece of graffiti street art whilst the hall itself was lit like a rock concert. Nigel at one point walked into the audience, gave his violin to a young fan and sat next to her listening to her play!-----------outrageous and totally off the wall, but that's the Kennedy for you.
I hope you enjoy this.the end section,
DCH
