I am doing exercises so I don't need that type of surgery, after four months I'd say it's paying off.

He can do anything he wants. He's going backpacking and rock climbing this summer. He snowboards, he skateboards, but he's not too good! He plays lacrosse. He drives a car. The doctor told him not to play football- that's all.

Dan didn't have to have the surgery either. It was his choice, and he chose it primarily to eliminate the hump on his back and straighten his shoulders. As his parents, we were in favor of the surgery because we kept seeing his curve progress worse and worse with each visit and thought having the surgery at 17 would be easier than having it later on when it was worse. I'm glad you are fine not having the surgery!

Thanks for sharing the photos of before and after surgery. But does this young man feel that he benefited from the surgery? Did he have pain that has now decreased? Did he improve functionally following the surgery?
The surgery photos are very informative--but what was the outcome for this young person?

You should look a two other videos I made: Scoliosis Survival and Scoliosis Survival: 18 months later. Dan totally benefited 100% from the surgery. He has no pain. He is completely active, as you can see from the follow-up video. A full life.
