I originally made this video before I realized that there were new Holgas being shipped. I added a title slide to reflect this change.

Since there are still the older Holgas with the defect still on the shelves here and there, I felt the video was still informative.

For the previous generation of Holgas, I show why, even though there is a switch for 2 apertures on Holga 120 and 135 cameras, there is really only 1 aperture adjustment for these cameras. The defect has been fixed on the newest Holga cameras that were recently released. There is still old stock floating around, so check before you buy!

  • a question: wich aperture do defected holgas work with? i read on the internet they work with smaller one (sunny), but it sounds weird to me.

  • You can leave the aperture switch on either setting, as they are the same.

  • Well, if you believe the specs, it should be f/8 since the apertures are supposed to be f/8 (cloudy) or f/11 (sunny). It is probably closer to f/13, according to Nicolai Morrisons calculations. go to

    photondetectorDOTcom/articles/holga-apertures/ change the DOT to a .

  • i bought a holga cfn jack edition. it actually has this defect. i never shoot w a holga. does it still take great pictures even though it has this defect? i am a diana mini user, but i am really excited to start using my holga

  • I have been using Holgas for a long time now, and it is still one of my favorites. The differences between the new model and the older models is very slight. You will be able to get good photos with your Jack Edition camera. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just get out there and shoot!

  • does the Holga 120 GN have the same problem? i've just bought one and I'm waitting for it....

  • All older versions of Holga 120 had this problem. Check yours out when you get it. If itvturns out to be an older version, don't fret too much, as the camera is still fully functional, and only slightly less capable. I've shot with the older version for years and think it's still a good camera.

  • hi ...Kai... do you think that the newer holga 135BC (bent corners) will have 2 real aperture or n ot?I bought it second hands and i know that it was made about from 2009 till now.. so you think that mine , bought in december 2011 will have the 2 real aperture? thank you a lot...

  • But here is one little thing that no one ever mentions. When you have a new Holga with aperture settings that work, you have to slide the aperture setting in the opposite way of what you would usually think. When you slide the button to reveal the cloud, it's actually set to sunny. The best thing is to open the camera completely and have a look at how this works for yourself...

  • I happened to buy a Holga 120N with the aperture defect too.

  • : thank you , you've been extremely kind.

  • : lol.....i was just asking: since the camera can be f8 or f11, which of these does holga work with. i know you can leave the switch on either settings, otherwise it wouldn't have been defected....
