he's a great announcer, but everyone makes mistakes from time to time.

Amen to the 2009 KY Derby reference. Durkin didn't see MTB at all until he was well past 'Nile and just mentioned him briefly as he was about to cross the wire. It can't be easy to keep track of all those horse, though, especially in a 19-horse field!

LOL.. Forgot about this race. Borel did to Denman the same thing he did to Durkin in the Derby. Blew through that rail so fast the track announcers had no idea what the heck just happened.

horrible call, just as bad as durkins Mine that bird miss in the Derby Durkin sucks, he's not even in denmans league

@luvlife77 Lmao thats the first thing i thought when watching it, he doesnt even mention Street Sense til hes 5 lenghs clear, hes screaming about some other horse coming on the outside and completely ignoring Street Sense, dreadful call
-
@LiquorWreckedEm, he does the announcing at Fairplex Park as well
-
One of the worst calls in history but as Clem McCarthy said to Bill Stern, "You can't lateral a horse!!!!"
-
Denman is very much accustomed to Santa Anita and Del Mar where horses rarely rally up the rail to win...That is not the case at Churchill. Denman dismissed the rail, focussing on the outside of the track. Denman is over the hill at this point and way past his best years.

It all depends on where their binoculars are focussed at the time. If the horse doesn't enter the field of vision in the binos, he/she isn't seen at the precise moment the decisive move is made. It's as simple as that.

How the heck did Denman miss Street Sense coming through?
-
Durkin may have made a similar mistake, but hes still WAY better in oppinion.
What a crap call, i hve to say that has to be one of the worst i have ever heard, SS was amazing his and the win of Ouija made my BC

I agree, one of the worst ever. When I watched it live I thought for a few seconds Trevor Denman would miss Street Sense completely and call the place horse the winner.
Denman has always been one of my favorites and has excellent anticipation at the Southern California tracks but here he was like Lava Man, traveling terribly. He overreacted to moves by 3 horses -- Scat Daddy, Circular Quay and Great Hunter.

Just a note... there is a video if this race somewhere on Youtube, but with French race callers. They also blew the call, in the sense that they missed SS's inside move.
Great race by Street Sense last weekend in Tampa Bay :)

That's really weird. I could see one race caller missing the call if he had his binoculars trained in the middle of the track and not the rail. But for two different callers to blow it makes me wonder if there was some sort of video setup for race callers in the press box and it missed Street Sense on the inside.
