MaximsNewsNetwork: 01 September 2010 - UN - MINUSTAH: Port-au-Prince, Haiti - In Haiti a special unit of the French military is training the Haitian police force in riot control for the upcoming general elections in November; training will be given to all law enforcement and riot police units.

At the Port-au-Prince Police Academy, police train are under fire and the exercise also educates police on the effects of tear gas. The Haitian police hope it will enhance the force on a professional level.

Here, trainees are instructed to remain in the middle of the gas without moving.

Earlier this year, France also donated 110 vehicles to reinforce the Haitian Police and they are now training forces on driving and the basic mechanics. This training will help maintain the longevity of the vehicles.

The two-week sessions run from 9 August until 17 September.
