Wendy Oldfield was born and educated in Cape Town, South Africa. While completing her training as a pre-primary school teacher, she exploded into the music industry in 1982 as the lead vocalist of The Sweatband.

Wendy worked with Sweatband for six years performing and touring around South Africa. They released two albums and had hits with "This Boy", "Tonight" and "Shape of Her Body".

In 1988 Wendy released her first solo single, "Living in the Real World". It went straight to No 1 on 5FM and Capital Radio. In 1992 she released her solo album "Beautiful World" and had three radio hits on national stations, including her number one smash hit "Acid Rain". Acid Rain was also released in Germany. She won the 1992 OKTV Music Award for the Best Vocalist of the Year.

Wendy has had extensive publicity and exposure on radio, television and print. She has appeared on magazine covers including Talk Magazine, The Sunday Times, Top 40 Magazine and Fair Lady. She was featured as one of the most beautiful women in South Africa in David Dodds calendar "Portraits of South Africas Beautiful Women 1997 - 2000".

Wendy and her band supported Wet Wet Wet at the Sun City Superbowl.

In February 1996 Wendy released her third solo album, "Ruby", on the Teal, Polygram label. This was the beginning of a definate change in direction for her. She had developed a keen interest in "world pop" and started exploring sounds, voice and instruments. This album saw a combination of sax, didjeridoo, djembe and chanting over a solid rock rhythm-section, creating an album of accessible rhythms and grooves. Lyrically, "Ruby" concerns itself with the next century, and muses about what kind of world it might be.
