What a beautiful polar bear. I can't get over how large it is. I would love to go see it. Thanks to precious Knut of Berlin Zoo fame I have become an avid polar bear fan. These magnificent creatures are thought to be as intelligent as great apes by current researchers as well as emotionally complex.

Whilst its not right to put a fantastic animal like this in a zoo, there was no alternative as it was rescued from misearble conditions in a south american circus. It had been kept in a cage so small it could not turn around. It had been fed on bread and was very ill and malnourished and severly underweight. It now lives in the Carolina state zoo and seems to be reasonably happy and well looked after.
