Can Nothing exist? Does nature abhor a vacuum? What happened before the Big Bang? Frank Close, Professor of Physics at Oxford University, talks about the bizarre discoveries science makes when you try to take everything away.

  • I think about that also , Where was I before I was born.. Did I not exist ? Or did my energy and consciousness come from somewhere else??? Man it sucks being dumb.....

  • @mp3talon We have very little understanding of voids or anything in space at this moment. So who knows what we will be saying in 50 years.

  • @mcstyles21 i dont know. i wasnt aware that it was supposed to. it was a response to what you said. you said "between your thoughts". my comment is a response to that. whether or not it relates to nothingness has no relation to its intended purpose.

  • @volound How does that relate to nothingness?

  • @mcstyles21 thoughts are an emergent property of consciousness and consciousness is a manifestation of the brain.

  • Yes, voids, which are in space, have absolutely nothing in them. And when I say nothing, I really mean nothing.

  • Here's a definition of nothing found in a 1755 dictionary. It claims that there was no beginning.

Nothing. It is most certain, that there could never be nothing. For if there could have been an instant, wherein there was no thing, then either nothing made something or something made itself; and so was, and acted, before it was. But if there never could be nothing; then there is, and was, a being of necessity, without any beginning. Grew's Caf.

  • Nothing does exist, its the gap between your thoughts

  • I had a conversation with someone back in 1999 about nothingness. He was saying that between say the earth and mars there is nothing, just empty space, but I argued that there must be something there otherwise the space would not exist and you would simply have two planets joined together. We went on to argue for a long time until he got sick of me but to this day I still think that there's no such thing as nothingness.

  • Even if you have a vacuum, it still exists in space so you don't have nothing, you have space, which is somehing.
