When the Holy Prophet arrived in Madinah it was Monday 12th of Rabi al-Awwal.

The people of Madinah were so excited with the coming of the Holy Prophet that they went out and did a procession (julus) to greet him and they sang a naat/qasidah/poem in praise of the Holy Prophet known as Tala Al-Badru Alayna:

طلع البدر علينا
Tala'a al-badru 'alaynā
Oh the white moon rose over us

Min thanīyāti al-wadā'
From the valley of al-Wadā'
Wajab al-shukru 'alaynā
And we owe it to show gratefulness

Mā da'ā lillāhi dā'
Where the call is to Allah.
Ayyuha al-mab'ūthu fīnā
Oh you who were raised among us

Ji'ta bil-amri al-mutā'
Coming with a word to be obeyed

Ji'ta sharaft al-madīnah
You have brought to this city nobleness

Marḥaban yā khayra dā'
Welcome best caller to God's way

Every year on the occassion of Milad an-Nabi the Muslims revive this blessed practise which was approved by the Holy Prophet by emulating this practice of the people of Madinah who celebrated the blessed arrival of the Prophet with fervent love and jubilant celebration.

So let us revive this blessed sunnah which has become forgotten in our turbelent times!
