red devils are really IMO a lot funner and happier to have with substrate. They love to dig and sculpt the tank into their own likeing. Cichlids do well on flakes btw "itsadoozie81" as long as they are made for cichlids. Try feeding your devil new life spectrum pellets. I found the colours a lot more vibrant on mine with NLS.
