Not For Public Release: A Nuclear Incident in Lock Haven. Trailer for the documentary film by Bill Keisling.

Students in Pennsylvania housed in Pentagon nuclear waste site.

Decades ago, a Pentagon contractor is given permission by the U.S. government to dump dangerous radioactive military waste on his property. After the contractor commits suicide by gruesomely setting himself afire in 1980, the property is resold and the building is later converted into housing for college students. When environmental officials learn in 2007 that students are now living in a forgotten nuclear dump site, they attempt to cover it all up and conceal a report labeled 'Not For Public Release.' • @ calico102: This subject was briefly discussed at the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection meeting tonight. One neighbor said there had been many cancer deaths in the immediate neighborhood. The state must be pressured to conduct studies. More later.

  • @warlockjunkie: the address of the site is 210 Third Avenue, Lock Haven, PA.

It's at the corner of Third and Maple, behind the car dealership.

  • Any link to cancer in former employees?

  • it was the old ron's rental building

  • Wonderful job thank you for putting this out there

  • AIR (Arrest The Incinerator Remediation) fought the Drake Superfund Incinerator from 1994-1999. We investigated suspected tosic waste sights in and around Lock Haven. No officials from PADEP or USEPA ever mentioned Karnish to us. The denied the existance of the 40 suspected sites we suspected. We forced the remediation of the Munro Site at the end of Piper airfield. Kids were partying in there for years until we uncovered toxic drums. Lock Haven's dirty toxic secrets continue to poisen us.

  • I remember an oleum tank literally blew up there, right in the middle of L.H. and then came the big clean up. We were out on Rt 80 by Eastville/Sugar Valley coming back from school , and could smell the stuff miles away. It was nasty... The leach field you speak of most likely drains right under the baseball field that sits along the Bald Eagle Creek on the other side of the dike near Castanea and many of my friends kids play there. The Bald Eagle used to run 1/2 in colors red, foam, green etc.

  • @Artistokrat...I attended LHU at the time they were doing the burning of that site. We discussed some documents in a geology class that made that virtually a waste of time. I believe there were three pools of mixed chemicals, at least one of which was actually deeper than the level within that project's scope. The instructor also indicated dirt samples out side of the site already indicated the cemicals had reached ground water levels and had in fact leeched under the dike project.

  • I never knew this, and I grew up in LH. But the real truth is L.H. has been a toxic dump site for many companies so nothing new to me (way back when) Like the clean up and burning of the dirt from one of the long gone Chemical Companies at their chemical dump pond behind the plant right off 220 was close to one of the biggest Fed toxic clean up sites, next to Love Canal, in the east? The best part of this was they burned the toxic waste in town, under local protest! and no one stopped it.

  • This is behind the Ford dealer at the top of Bellefonte Ave. It's the location of the old Ron's Rental.
