  • i live in nanaimo i never even new nanaimo had a china town and i dont think it has one right now does it? where did this take place? somewhere downtown im guessing? i dont know much im only 12

  • This chinatown was located between the downtown area and Harewood, just off of Pine and around Hecate but burned in 1960. The museum had a good exhibit but they are temporarily closed while they relocate to the new Nanaimo Centre.

  • thats so sad...it would have been nice to have a china town. people seriously have to be evil to do something like that

  • Although I don't know why the fire occurred, I have never heard that it was an intentional act.

  • I always wondered why we dint have a china town. Now I know.

  • All the displaced chinese were taken in by the church going public

.I remember my mother and father telling me they had a chinese man staying in their house for awhile..

They never knew what started the fire, some theorys were that the chinese had hoardes of fireworks stored in their shops, which excelerated the blaze.
