Elaine does indeed shout... the first chorus in particular! Barbara puts in the better performance

This is definitely not the best live version of this song. Personally, the live version of them singing most recently is the best. Elaine shouts a bit here and, as stated, goes off key once or twice, but Barbara wasn't at her best either. For someone who stated she sings the song in B Flat, it didn't sound that way. Still, they're both great performers and this is better than any rendition by anyone else.

Wow, they are both great. Far better than Whitney or Barbara Streisand's versions of this song. I love Susan too but her version of this wasn't so great. These two have it down to perfection... and this song is killer. I think Elaine and Dickinson make the most of the melody

Hahahahahaha! I love how everyone's a critic!
Get over yourselves, and just enjoy the music!

@CandyHaleLinton The best thing you can do is think as if you are there during the time they are rendering the song. Then you will understand the message of the song (its all about their bittersweet relationship since they are engaged with one man - this explain their emotions in every performance they do. Didn't you wonder why this recording remains in the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest selling UK Chart single ever by a female duo even until now? visit

@northernstar2000 @northernstar2000 It's not 'Impossible' Elaine Paige is a fine performer, but in this, the best live rendition of 'I know him so well', her tone coarsens and she slips off key twice, both times when she sings the word 'security'. It's not musically refined or tasteful or necessary, especially when singing a fine duet with a very fine musician. Have a listen again before telling me my opinions are 'Impossible'. Thank you very much.

@CandyHaleLinton Impossible.... the harmony and message of the song will just be ruined if thats the case if anyone of them is insecure. The song itself is an expression feelings of a wife and mistress and emotions is part of the rendition

I think both Elaine and Babara are great singers. No one is better than another in general, but just in this song Babara seems to be better. It's just my opinion

Rubbish.

Beautiful, concise voices. I grew up with this song, but still love it! Just brilliant.
Yeah, I agree this would have been superb but Page shouts badly two or three times. Insecure I guess when duetting with the flawless and refined alto of Ms Dickson
