Color Catastrophe! embodies a whimsical story of heroism that ultimately teaches its audience how to mix secondary colors from primary colors and describe the process. Geared towards 1st graders, it teaches the California State Standard of Visual and Performing Arts 2.2.
Each illustration was hand drawn before being scanned into Illustrator and live traced. All of the characters, with the exception of the Flower Girls, were colored in Photoshop. The Flower Girls as well as the backgrounds for each scene were all traditionally drawn and colored, then scanned into Photoshop where their levels were adjusted.
The animation itself was done completely in Adobe After Effects. Harnessing the puppet tool, the characters were given a very simple and unrealistic movement. This is intentional for, in the world of Torvana, realism is not important. Colors are.
This was my first time animating. Which isn't an excuse for the glitches and simple animations, but I'm going to pretend it is.
That's so cute. |D
